Keep ReadingDALLAS, September 27, 2001 – Responding quickly to the tragic events of September 11, Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE: KMB) and its employees have so far donated or pledged nearly $1.3 million in cash and products to the American Red Cross and other agencies.
Of that amount, $1 million was immediately donated to the Red Cross Liberty Disaster Relief Fund by the Kimberly-Clark Foundation, the company’s charitable and philanthropic arm. To support and encourage individual contributions to the Red Cross, the company is matching dollar-for-dollar all gifts made by Kimberly-Clark’s 66,000 employees located worldwide.
The company also has filled specific requests of the Red Cross and the city of New York for Kimberly-Clark products to support rescue and relief efforts. This has included the donation of Scott paper towels, Kleenex facial tissue, Tecnol face masks, Kimberly-Clark bathing cloths and Cottonelle toilet tissue. To assist the Mayor of New York’s office, the company also supplied 118,000 pocket packs of Kleenex facial tissue for last Sunday’s three prayer services in the city.
“I am extremely proud of our employees and their generosity. They have made individual financial contributions, conducted fund-raising efforts, donated needed blood, and provided volunteer assistance in New York City and in other communities,” said Wayne R. Sanders, chairman and chief executive officer. “There will be difficult and trying days ahead, but all of us at Kimberly-Clark take heart in the outpouring of support shown by individuals, companies, communities and countries around the world.”
“The American Red Cross is working around the clock to ensure that those affected by the recent tragedies have comfort and care,” said Skip Seitz, senior vice president, American Red Cross. “We are grateful that so many Americans and corporations including Kimberly-Clark have demonstrated a willingness to help the Red Cross provide immediate and long-term relief to everyone who has been touched by these catastrophic events.”
