DALLAS, September 17, 2004--Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE: KMB) is delivering more than $150,000 in personal hygiene products to area residents in Mobile, Ala. in response to Hurricane Ivan. As a leading employer in Mobile, with nearly 800 employees, Kimberly-Clark is also making a financial contribution of $40,000 to the local American Red Cross chapter.
Kimberly-Clark products will be available at the local Salvation Army as coordinated by the efforts of AmeriCares. Both AmeriCares and the American Red Cross are providing immediate and long-term relief assistance in the Mobile area in the wake of Hurricane Ivan.
Truckloads of Kimberly-Clark products including Huggies brand diapers and baby wipes and Kimberly-Clark Professional bath tissue and folded towels have been delivered to the Salvation Army in Mobile, and more is on the way.
"Hurricane Ivan has directly impacted Kimberly-Clark employees in one of our hometown communities," said Thomas J. Falk, Kimberly-Clark chairman and chief executive officer. "There are rough days ahead for all of this season's hurricane victims and we are grateful for the outpouring of support shown by neighbors, charitable organizations, and companies to help residents rebuild in the wake of this season's devastating storms."
Earlier this week Kimberly-Clark donated nearly $20,000 of Huggies brand diapers to the Caribbean islands of Grenada, Jamaica and Grand Cayman in the wake of the hurricane. Already this year Kimberly-Clark has donated more than $125,000 of products to the victims in the Tampa, Fla. area in the wake of Hurricane Charley.
"AmeriCares thanks Kimberly-Clark for their immediate response to Hurricane Ivan," said Lauren Rosato, manager of corporate relations at AmeriCares. "As a valued partner for more than 18 years, Kimberly-Clark's response was quick and essential to our ability to respond to the needs of residents in Mobile during this emergency situation."
