Keep ReadingATLANTA (October 7, 2005) - Boys & Girls Clubs of America (www.bgca.org) has elected Thomas J. Falk, Chairman & CEO of Kimberly-Clark, Corporation, to the organization's prestigious Board of Governors. In this capacity he will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of the national organization, including fiduciary oversight and accountability to the general public.
"Tom's expertise in running one of the country's largest consumer product companies will be helpful to Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) as we look to increase awareness for Boys & Girls Clubs of America brand," said BGCA President Roxanne Spillett. "As a long-time volunteer for our organization, Tom knows firsthand that our Clubs provide a positive place for millions of America's children and their families."
In addition to his personal involvement, this past spring, Falk announced Kimberly-Clark's corporate support for a new multi-year, multi-million dollar initiative recognizing the critical role families play in the healthy development of children. Through a gift of $7 million over five years, BGCA will develop programs and strategies for integrating new family-based curriculum into Clubs nationwide.
Falk joins a board with many other prominent leaders from the business, civic, academic and entertainment fields, including actor Denzel Washington; baseball superstar Ken Griffey, Jr.; Edward Liddy, Chairman/CEO, Allstate; Rick Goings, Chairman/CEO, Tupperware; Ann M. Fudge, Chairman/CEO, Young & Rubicam, Inc. and Y&R Advertising; and Ronald LeMay, Chairman, octobercapital.
"I am honored to join a group of people who share a passion and dedication to helping today's young people navigate an increasingly complex world," said Falk. "After years of serving in various national and local volunteer capacities, I know how our Clubs are changing and improving the lives of America's young people."
Falk's influence has been felt in numerous areas throughout the Boys & Girls Club Movement, including serving as a National Trustee since 2002, chairing the 2002 Southwest Chairman's Dinner, which raised a record $1.78 million, and helping lead the Southwest Regional Golf Tournament committee.
Falk was appointed Chairman of Kimberly-Clark in 2003. A year earlier he had been promoted CEO of Kimberly-Clark. Among his many accomplishments, Falk was responsible for the successful integration of Scott Paper operations with Kimberly-Clark following the merger of the two companies in 1995. He joined Kimberly-Clark in 1983.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America (www.bgca.org) comprises a national network of some 3,700 neighborhood-based facilities annually serving more than 4.4 million young people, primarily from disadvantaged circumstances.
