AmbientaDOS Invites Education Centers in Costa Rica to Recycle and Win

San Jose, Costa Rica, September 20, 2022 – Kimberly-Clark Costa Rica is pleased to announce it is reactivating its recycling program AmbientaDOS, paused due to the pandemic, to continue its objective of educating society and recycling waste including paper, plastic, cardboard, glass, aluminum, Tetra Pak, brass, tin and more.

The program’s reactivation will be gradual and in phases. During the first phase from October 1 to November 30, 2022, a contest will be held aimed at primary and high schools. This is in addition to regular waste collection.

Environmental education in the country
Over the years, the program has worked on environmental awareness and social responsibility in collaboration with strategic partners, including municipalities, collection centers, public and private institutions, education centers and more.

AmbientaDOS has operated in the country for over a decade and is a national program driving the local development and well-being of the communities in which it operates. In 2015, the Government of Costa Rica declared it of public and national interest.

“We are pleased to reactivate our AmbientaDOS program, a pioneering initiative that created a culture of recycling in Costa Rica. We encourage education centers and future generations to join in and support the efforts for a circular economy and sustainability in benefit of the country”, commented José Álvarez, Kimberly-Clark’s General Manager for South Central America and the Caribbean.

Recycle and win!
All primary and high schools that wish to participate in the contest’s first edition must be accredited by the Ministry of Public Education (MEP) and located in the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM). Moreover, during the contest period, participation must be exclusive to this recycling initiative, i.e., participants cannot be connected with any similar process with another public or private entity.

The first prize will be US$2,000 and US$1,000 will go to second place. This money will be used to improve the infrastructure of the winning education centers. Winners will be announced on December 8, 2022.

Daniel Zapata, AmbientaDOS program coordinator at Kimberly-Clark Costa Rica, says the contest will consider the volume of recyclable material in addition to proper segregation: “All material received must be clean, dry, and properly separated.”

As part of the participant evaluation process, a recycling manager authorized by Kimberly-Clark will visit each education center to check, weigh, and collect all recyclable material.
